Consciously Choose Your Life’s Path
Remember to Check Your Direction
Walking provides great exercise. I try and get out every day unless the weather is bad.
I take various routes to avoid monotony. Many times, though, I find myself walking down a favorite path without really having consciously chosen which way to go. I step out the door, my mind starts working over a particular concern, and that’s it. My legs just automatically pick a path without my having considered where it might lead.
We get into habits that way. We do something long enough, we start to do it without thinking. Most of our lives are lived that way, aren’t they? Think about it. Do you have to think about what you’re going to do when you get up each morning? Do you have to consciously think about how you’re going to get to work? Or what routes you’re going to take? What about when you first get there? What’s the first thing you do? What about the second? And then, of course, disaster strikes and if you’re like me your carefully considered plan for the day goes out the window, and you start to bog down in the details and lose focus of your direction.
Isn’t that interesting? How often are we so caught up in the daily routine and about the day to day worries of our jobs, our families, our lives that we have forgotten completely to pay attention to the overall direction of our lives?
Stop right now. Where are you headed? Are you happy with your life’s direction? Maybe it’s time to change. Even a slight change in direction over a long path will lead you to a completely different destination.
Think about it.
