Perspective

I was out for a walk a few days ago. On the trail I came upon a beetle crossing the path in front of me. I paused and watched, thinking that for the beetle, the distance across the path must seem huge, the road rough with obstacles (which were really only pebbles), and a giant was standing there which could crush him at any instant. For me, from a higher, larger perspective, the distance was insignificant and its course straight and smooth.

It got me thinking about perspective. Oftentimes when we embark upon a path, we can only see what’s immediately around us. The distance seems great and the obstacles and possible dangers almost overwhelming. But if we were to rise up, get a higher, more far -seeing perspective, we would be able to realize our path is actually pretty direct and short. That we just have to continue on and not worry about the distance, and we’ll arrive safe and sound.

When we start to get overwhelmed along our life’s path, stop, rise up, remove yourself a bit and get some higher perspective. You’ll see that your obstacles will shrink, your path will look more smooth and direct, and you’ll see that the distance is not really that great.
