Grow Toward the Light — Making time for Personal Growth:

I work in a three story office building that has a large atrium capped off by a large skylight in the roof. This skylight allows sunlight to shine through the building, top to bottom. While sitting in the break room one day, I noticed something peculiar about one tall plant just off the atrium on the 3rd floor. This plant had grown so tilted at an odd angle it seemed it would fall over any minute.

This plant was growing towards the sunlight. I decided to walk around and take note of all the indoor plants and how they were growing. Every single one was growing, stretching themselves toward the nearest source of light. One particular plant was set in an area that wouldn’t get any sunlight, but it was angling towards a fluorescent light; the only source of light it could find.

Most living things, including people, need light to survive. They grow in light and wither in darkness.

There are many types and forms of light. There is sunlight, fluorescent light, infra-red, ultraviolet, etc. There is also the “˜light’ that is associated with learning, intelligence, and truth. One refers to being “˜enlightened’ with knowledge, truth, goodness.

We need this type of light for the continued growth of our souls just as much as our bodies need a physical light to keep us from withering.

If we avoid the light of education, knowledge, intelligence, growth, our souls become stale and sick.

We should take time to get a daily dose “˜enlightenment,’ so we continue to flourish spiritually and emotionally as well as physically.
